Raised as a cattle herder in the prestige of Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), a mixed World Heritage Site since 1979 and 2010 for Natural and Cultural heritage respectively, Arpakwa Marco Ole Sikorei is a driven, dynamic conservationist and community conservation/heritage expert, focusing on achieving results based on a multidisciplinary and free, prior, and informed approach in conservation and heritage management. He works in various fields related to natural resources, rangeland management, indigenous knowledge, community-based conservation, tourism, and heritage management. As a pastoralist and traditional conservationist, he values ideas on land management concepts under indigenous knowledge management and conservation, fully linked with community participation. He helps solve people and wildlife conflicts through training and advice to local actors, governments, and international communities. He has strongly participated in natural resources management through free, prior, and informed consent, working at various agencies including FAO, UNESCO, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA), and various NGOs in Tanzania. With his diverse background, he aims to offer value across several specialties, including conservation and management of sites inscribed or to be inscribed on the World Heritage List, cultural policies (preparation of strategic documents, etc.), training and capacity building for young heritage professionals on modules related to the conservation, management, and restoration of World Heritage, issues pertaining to indigenous communities, culture, and their heritage, community-based conservation, and project development and implementation in the field.
