Heritage Adapts!

A global movement of community stewards adapting their heritage sites and cultural practices to climate change.

Every heritage steward is invited to pledge to take locally led climate adaptation action for their heritage site or cultural practice by 2030, and to join the online community of action platform for support throughout the process. No matter the type or scale of heritage you represent—whether natural and cultural places, objects and collections, intangible cultural heritage and practices, and beyond—Heritage Adapts! is for you. If you don't represent a site or practice, your expertise is valued and can make an impact here too!

We adapt better together!

Our Partners

3000 by 2030

The 2020s are a critical decade for climate action. Not only is it when we need to significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to avoid the most catastrophic consequences of climate change, it is when we need to urgently ramp up efforts to adapt to the climate change humans have already caused. That's why the UN recently adopted the Global Goal on Adaptation framework to accelerate adaptation action by 2030. And for the first time in global climate policy history, culture and heritage are explicitly included. So, we're making the most of this moment and rallying together to ask community stewards of at least 3000 heritage places and cultural practices to pledge to implement adaptive strategies by 2030. Other sectors have their campaigns; its time for heritage to have ours! Will you join us?

Community of Action

The path from commitment to action starts here! Tackling the climate crisis and fulfilling your pledge to adapt can feel overwhelming. Our free Community of Action platform makes it easier by:
- Connecting you with peers and experts for collaboration and inspiration through forums, events, office hours, and more.
- Guiding you through a self-directed, actionable adaptation journey to (1) enhance your climate and heritage literacy (2) engage your communities to create a risk assessment and adaptation plan (3) implement adaptation actions and track progress.

All grounded in a locally-led, values-driven approach that weaves together scientific, Indigenous, and local knowledge to help you adapt in ways that are true to your community.
